In this election Ruth H. Thompson came in first with 93% of the vote which amounted to 28,631 votes. Robert L. Diamond came in second and obtained 5% of the vote which amounted to 1,532 votes. Other candidates included Crystal Collins who obtained 2% of the vote which amounted to 568 votes. The total non-write-in votes in this election were 30,731.
